SOLIHULL racing driver Nick Yelloly recorded a season-best result at Paul Ricard this weekend with a second and fourth finish in the penultimate round of the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 Championship.
Saturday’s qualifying session in difficult conditions saw Yelloly set pole position for the first race of the weekend.
However ahead of the start the rain came down and Yelloly, having gambled with a dry weather set up, suffered wheel spin and dropped to fifth from the grid.
Despite this he was back up to third and then into the lead as the top two cars spun off in the wet.
He was being forced to nurse his tyres by now which allowed second placed Da Costa through after Yelloly ran wide to gain traction, finished in second position, his third podium finish of the season so far.
A small error in qualifying for the second race cost the Comtec team driver a big loss if time meaning he started the final race of the weekend back in ninth.
However with the conditions again wet the the rain-loving Silhillian was confident that he could make up the places. Two laps in he was up to fifth, then pitting late he moved up to fourth which he held until the chequered flag moving him back up to fourth in the drivers championship overall with just two races to go.
“This has been our best weekend to date,” said Yelloly.
“We now head to Barcelona on September 20 for the final race weekend of the season. It’s a track that I really like and e definitely go there with high hopes of securing two strong results.
