A GRITTY display from Stacey Hawkins helped her claim the senior W.K.A 60kg British title in Scotland last week.

The 15-year-old from Smith’s Wood beat hot favourite Adele Steinbach who is the current WKN World Champion.

After winning the title eliminator last month, the ‘terminator’ as she is better known travelled to Aberdeen for the five two-minute round fight.

Landing some superb sidekicks to the body, Hawkins took the first and second round before nearly knocking out her opponent in the third.

However the agile Steinbach fought back and managed to find some extra energy to win the fourth round with some lovely combination punching.

The last round was as exciting and action-packed as the others but ended as a draw before the scorecards were counted and Hawkins announced the new senior champion.

The Smith’s Wood Sports College student also qualified recently for the W.K.A world championships to be held in Spain.

Coach Lance Mayner was delighted with her achievements.

“Stacey has won virtually every domestic title there is and stands a good chance in Spain.”

Mr Mayner is looking for local businesses to sponsor Stacey as she bids to become world champion. Any interested parties can call him on 07790 745750.
