EVERGREEN cyclist David Rutherford triumphed in the 60+ category at the gruelling Tyneside Vagabonds Mountain Time Trial last weekend.
Over a gruelling 46 mile course in rugged Northumberland, the Solihull Cycling Club veteran not only won his age group by completing the course in two hours, 19 minutes and 20 seconds but also finished third in the Best Vet on Standard time competition.
Not to be outdone, Solihull CC’s youngsters were also in fine form at the other end of the country competing in the national youth series event in Thruxton, Hampshire.
Under 12 rider Dan Bradbury, in his fifth outing in the red, white and blue, was just edged out of the top ten whilst Under 16 rider Angela Eggleton, recently joined from Halesowen CC, made it into the top five in a photo finish.
In the mountain bike discipline, Solihull riders were thin on the ground at the Midland MTB XC Regional Champs last weekend. With team mate Danny Fox recovering from broken collar-bone surgery, Jack Ravenscroft was the only club rider in the Youth A race.
The venue was a blustery golf course near Chesterfield and no sooner had riders set off than the rain set in. Recovering from mid-week illness and riding for just over one hour in the wet over long climbs and tight bends on gravel descents, Jack came home second.
