OLTON took on the Investec Premier Division champions-in-waiting, in dire need of some points to keep their season going in the right direction.

The first 15 minutes was backs-to-the-wall stuff as Olton fended off all that was thrown at them – Kerry Moore literally taking one for the team and Jenny Mashford pulling out some great stops to keep GB’s Alex Danson at bay.

All this effort received the ultimate reward when, on 19 minutes, Naomi James converted Olton’s first short-corner to take the lead.

Reading came out in the second half with renewed vigour and Danson rifled a shot into the Olton goal, followed quickly by another.

However Olton drew level through Emma McCabe only to see Reading re-take the lead just five minutes later.

The home team were putting in some fantastic tackles and saves to keep hopes alive when with barely a minute to go Mashford brilliantly saved a penalty flick from none other than Team GB great Helen Richardson and from the restart Olton raced down the pitch and equalised through Fiona Davies.

l Meanwhile in the Men’s Conference Northern Division Brooklands beat Olton & WW 1-0.

With two games remaining that will not influence the league, Olton’s preparation for next season can begin early thanks to other results ensuring they will be playing in the National League for their third season.
