BLYTHE Barracudas Swimming Club were in action on consecutive weekends in the Worcester Winter League and the John Vaughan Trophy gala at Wolverhampton Leisure Centre.
Blythe could only manage fifth place at both but there were some fine performances, in particular from the club’s new junior coach Dave Fellows.
The 19-year-old tasted victory in the 100m open freestyle in the Winter League and followed this up with a win in the same event at Wolverhampton.
Dave also managed wins in the open 4x1 medley relay and 4x1 freestyle relay with fellow swimmers Karol Bukowski, and George and Charlie Cooke.
Among the youngsters, there were wins for William Rigg in the 11 years 50m freestyle and Karol Bukowski in the boys open 100m backstroke event. Meanwhile, George Cooke won his open 100m butterfly event.
Eleven-year-olds William Rigg, Louis Regan, Tom O’Hanlon and Rory Jones won the boys freestyle relay event while the mixed nine-year-olds of Freya Lindsay, Freddie Truman, Leah Kenny and Thomas Jones triumphed in the medley relay.
The Barracudas have strengthened their coaching team with the appointment of George Cooke who will take Monday night sessions between 7pm and 8pm at Small Heath Leisure Pool and would welcome any new swimmers interested in joining the club.
