RED-HOT Garry Wallis rolled back the years to beat Mike Tunstall in the Invitation 16 at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel.
The top 16 bowls players in the country visited the 16th century Solihull green which is one of the oldest in the country.
During the final days leading up to the event, a couple of late withdrawals forced the organisers to call in some last minute talent. One of whom was Doncaster-based Wallis who proceeded to turn back the clock to his days on the circuit almost 20 years ago, and demolish the opposition in his path.
First round opponent was Paul Bailey, semi finalist last year, who found him to hard to handle.
With this win under his belt Wallis then went on to beat Tony Dodd, before moving on to the semi-final which proved to be one of the highlight games of the day as he narrowly defeated Merseysider and bookies favourite Danny Barwise.
The northerner, who appeared on 1980’s TV show Superbowl, beat Tunstall 21-19 as the powerful striker ended as runner-up for the second successive season.
The players all attended a gala dinner and presentation afterwards.
