Top bowling paved the way for a fine seven wicket away win by Olton over newly promoted Rugby. Having won the toss, the visitors invited Rugby to bat.
Phil Trilloe soon found his line and length and troubled the Rugby batsman for all his 15 overs which went for just 11 runs taking two wickets. Dan Neale was his partner bowling 12 overs for just 20 runs as the Olton bowlers strangled Rugby and brought them to 59-6 in the 30th over.
Cochrane (37) led a spirited fight back aided by Siddique (18) and Parker (17) and Rugby’s final total of 152-8 was more than they could have expected 20 overs earlier.
Tony Bristow (13) and Zaid Joseph had an opening stand of 20 and shortly after skipper Gary Hawkins (38) joined Joseph taking the score to 64. Joseph then really settled into his stride and with Webb (10 no) went on to score 88 n.o. to bring Olton victory by seven wickets. Next Saturday Olton are at home to Handsworth.
