MOSELEY lost a thrilling encounter with Leamington Spa off the last ball of the match away at Arlington Avenue in the Birmingham Premier League last Saturday.
Leamington successfully chased down Moseley’s 199 all out, Jason Robinson (39) and Huw Jones (37) guiding Moseley to their total, but 55 from MCC Young Professional Tom Lewis and 35 from Michael Balac set up Leamington’s two wicket win, despite four for 59 from Ricardo Gordon.
Moseley skipper Abdul Hafeez said: “Sometimes you just need a bit of luck and unfortunately someone has to lose and on this occasion it was us.”
However he was full of praise for his team which, put into bat on a green wicket quickly put the runs on.
“We fought hard and although we struggled a bit in the middle Jason Robertson batted well and it was more than a reasonable total.”
However Moseley, without their Warwickshire player Laurie Evans and still missing the injured Freddy Eburah in attack, pushed Leamington all the way.
“It was a thrilling finish and we bowled really well,” said Hafeez, “if we let ourselves down anywhere it was in the field where we missed a crucial catch - and we bowled 13 no balls - the fielding and the extras were the difference.”
Moseley, having played in the cup on Wednesday now face Kidderminster Victoria at home tomorrow, Saturday, in the league and Hafeez, with the return of Evans, is looking for a result.
“We’re always upbeat and we’re feeling very positive about the Kidderminster match.”
