SOLIHULL Municipal's bowlers triumphed in the Walker Cup, fending off fierce competition from top clubs in the region.

SOLIHULL Municipal's bowlers triumphed in the Walker Cup, fending off fierce competition from top clubs in the region.

The prestigious competition was won after a number of closely-fought contests.

In a tight battle with Hall Green's Sherwood Park BC, the "Muni Men" won by three matches to one in Saturday's final.

Chris Holmes won the Singles and Roger Reade and Malcolm Evans the Pairs, to give Solihull a 2-0 lead.

The Triples was a tense affair but John Bentien, Keith Miller and Francis Fletcher opened up a gap on the 17th end to earn victory on the final end.

There was some consolation for Sherwood when they won the Fours, despite the huge efforts of Solihull's Bryan Jones, Jim Pearson, Peter Bird and Tony Burdett.
