Dorridge 223 v Berkswell 226-8
A two wicket win saw Berkswell move to the top of the Birmingham Premier League Division 1 after their fixture at local rivals Dorridge.
Having won the toss, visiting skipper Dominic Ostler asked the home side to have first use of the wicket, and with the first ball of the second over Chris Cheslin uprooted Omar Ali’s middle stump and then, just three balls later, had David Ball (0) spectacularly caught at slip by Ostler.
The loss of two wickets in the over left the hosts on 10 for two.
The loss of Jonathan Webb (12) reduced Dorridge to 20 for 3 but the collapse was halted by a fourth wicket partnership of 57 between Tariq Mohammed and Ian Stevenson. Berkswell regained control before Dorridge took the upper hand.
The closure of the innings came in the 53rd over when Cheslin, had Ali Ebad (22) stumped by Phil Neale to give the bowler a return of 5 for 41 off 10.5 overs.
Berkswell started their reply in fine style with brothers James and Phil Neale putting together an opening stand of 60.
The drinks break after the 28th over seemed to favour the home side as Berkswell lost two wickets in the next two overs. The demise of Babar Khan (2) and Adil Khan (0) gave the hosts a hint of a possible win but Berkswell took a well earned victory in the 53rd over.
