Yardley beat the cold and Rugeley to snatch victory

Yardley 3 Rugeley 2

YARDLEY were delighted to have edged all three points in this entertaining game in the ENER-G MRHA West Midlands Division 2 against a team they have not beaten for many years.

On a bitterly cold afternoon, Rugeley were obliged to start with only nine players.

However for most of the first half it was the visitors who bossed the game. Ironically it was when Rugeley’s tenth player arrived before half time that Yardley began to find their feet.

However, with a few light flurries of snow falling it remained honours even at the break.

An amazing start to the second half saw three goals in five minutes. Rugeley’s early pressure saw them race through to grab the lead but Yardley struck back almost immediately when Charles Chikasha calmly put the ball into the net.

Rugeley regained the lead before Zach Jarvis ran forward to find Chikasha who scored his second and levelled the game. Both teams were providing thrilling attacks in spite of the deteriorating conditions but Yardley sensed they could win this game. Sure enough a short corner led to Chikasha completing his hat-trick and Yardley a thrilling win.

Yardley travel to joint league leaders Whitchurch this week.
