Yardley scrape home against nine man Rugeley

Rugeley 1 Yardley 2

Rugeley 1 Yardley 2

YARDLEY made desperately hard work of winning this ENER-G MRHA West Midlands Division 2 against a Rugeley team who found themselves with only eight players ready to start and could eventually only muster nine throughout most of the game.

Rugeley gained early possession and Yardley found it hard to break down the home side’s solid defence. However they went in front after 15 minutes through top scorer Noor Zaman.

The home side’s nine men simply cut out midfield, defended solidly and played accurate long balls to their two strikers up front who gave the Yardley back line plenty of trouble.

Then, just before half time, a solo run by a Rugeley attacker won the home side a penalty corner which was well converted to make the score 1-1.

As the game wore on Yardley were lucky not to concede more penalty corners; however a powerful cross from James Livingston was deflected both by a defender and the Rugeley goalkeeper into the net to give Yardley an advantage they barely deserved.
