The first half of the 2010-2011 swimming season has been summed up with great success at the Warwickshire County Championships, held at Coventry’s International 50m pool over the first three weekends of March.
All 28 Solihull swimmers performed well, their success being down to a fantastic team spirit and support together with determination and effort in every race throughout the competition.
Several achieved personal bests, a cumulative of over four minutes knocked off their entry times, ranging from less than one second to over 12 seconds per swimmer.
In all, Becky Kamau (incl. 2x1st), Oliver Rooney, Victoria Long (incl. 4x1st), Sophie Stables (incl. 7x1st), Alice Glover, Caitlin Hubbard, Tom Slater, Georgia Slater, Dan Moore, Kieran Bowley, Jamie Topping and Sarah Warwood were ranked within the top 10 for their age.
In addition 24 of the swimmers gained top 20 places - all fantastic results as there were over 200 entrants in some events.
There was a very good turn out from Solihull’s younger swimmers.
Caitlin, Victoria, Sophie, Becky and Dan all gained enough BAGCAT points to finish in the top four in their age groups as well as Becky qualifying for two finals, being the only 11 year old across the whole championships to do so.
Head coach Kate Hill hopes these successes have fuelled the squad on for the second half of the season.
The next team outing is to the City of Birmingham open and the Coventry & District Championships.
The Solihull senior squad was also in action last Saturday hosting a trophy gala against six local clubs.
Kingsbury Swimming Club won with Solihull second.
Solihull train locally and the club has over 600 members and fully qualified coaches.
