Youngsters grab medal haul

SEVEN Solihull Cycling Club riders collected trophies and medals at the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League’s annual prize-giving in Halesowen.

SEVEN Solihull Cycling Club riders collected trophies and medals at the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League’s annual prize-giving in Halesowen.

Andy Shaw led his family by securing third place overall in the Vets 45 plus category, and his daughter Lucy placed second overall in the Under-14 Girls’ section and brother Matt Shaw secured the third spot in the Under-12 Boys’.

Alexander Mitchell had won the Under-14 Boys’ category with races to spare in the series, and faces a big step up to the Under-16 category next season.

His clubmate Danny Fox took second place in the Under-16s, despite it being his first year at this level.

In the Under-10s, James Upton secured a bronze medal.

His third place in the league featured the highlight of winning the Solihull round of the series at Elmdon Park back in October.

Rachel Mayhew took the Under-10s Girls’ title in her first season of competitive cycling.
