TABLE-topping Birmingham Exiles edged past local rivals Civil Service to stay ahead of the pack in Midlands West 6 (SW).
Their ninth consecutive win was started when hooker Kieran Walter sold a dummy and went over in the right corner.
Winger Matt Austin then doubled the scores with a touchdown before Ryan Burke crossed in the corner for the visitors.
Just before half time Scott Forester kicked a penalty to give Exiles some breathing space but after the break Liam Clarke cancelled out the score.
Then at a scrum on their own five-metre line, Exiles’ pack was driven backwards and the visitors’ No.8 John Ward dived on the ball to claim the try and level it at 13-apiece.
E’s mounted a counterattack and an offence at a ruck enabled Forester to slot his second penalty and edge his side ahead once more.
Relentless Civil Service pressure nearly took its toll but E’s held on to record the win.
Tomorrow E’s host Old Griffinians in a non-league fixture.
