Camp Hill 18 Walsall 21

Despite another immaculate display of goal-kicking by full back Ian Briggs , Camp Hill’s final match in 2011 saw them go down to this narrow victory to Walsall in this Midlands West One fixture.

Two early penalties from full back Ian Briggs saw Camps into a six point lead before Walsall’s fly half Liam Lloyd responded with one of his own.

Briggs then added his third before the hosts were suddenly temporarily reduced to 13, both from the forwards.

In the 26th minute and still with a six-man pack, the referee somehow awarded a penalty to the visitors because Camp Hill had deliberately wheeled a scrum in their own 22, 10 metres from the Walsall line.

Lloyd added the conversion but Camps lifted themselves with two further Briggs penalties to arrive at half time with a 15 - 10 advantage.

Seven minutes into the second period Briggs’s sixth kick at goal extended his side’s lead but this was short-lived.

The award of numerous penalties against the home side eventually led to a try for right wing Alex Greenslade to make the score 18 - 15.

The final quarter saw Camps penalised time and time again allowing Lloyd to ease over two more kicks and see his side take most of the spoils.

Camp Hill’s next league encounter sees them travel to Bournville on January 7. Kick off is at 2.15pm.
