Dream final for Berkswell & Balsall

A MAGNIFICENT run of five successive victories has swept Berkswell & Balsall Rugby Club to just one match away from what would be a miraculous recovery from minus 15 points at the start of the season to a place in the RFU Midlands 1 Division.

The five game surge, culminating in a 27-5 away win over Silhillians, has taken them into runners-up position in the South section of Midlands 2 (West) division, earning them a promotion play-off this Saturday against Old Salts.

This, for supporters of the two clubs is a dream grand finale to the season, one with a cup final feel.

For BBRFC, win or lose, it represents a remarkable climb from the depths of the 15-point disciplinary deduction for an incident last season.

Instead they have improved gradually, the only hiccough being the lost to Pershore 19-18 after they’d taken an 18 point lead.

“It’s been a fantastic performance by our players,” said a BBRFC official.

“Who would have thought when we began the season at minus-15 points that they could respond as they have to get us within a match of going up a division?”
