Camp Hill RFC will officially get their season underway this weekend, with twin fixtures.
A North Midlands Cup game against Newport will take place at 3pm, following on from the Tom Ulliott Memorial game.
Tom Ulliott was a junior coach, and a regular player at the Haslucks Green Road Club, when in 2008, he unexpectedly died at the age of 28.
The memorial match will be contested by a Camp Hill Development XV, containing numerous players that Tom helped to coach, and Camp Hill’s third XV, which is the side Tom regularly turned out for.
“Tom was an immensely enthusiastic coach, and he is greatly missed by the Mini and Junior section,” said a club spokesperson.
A collection in Tom’s memory was handed to his family, who in turn handed some back to the club, which allowed for the Mini and Junior sections to buy new match shirts.
“All of the new shirts have Tom’s initials, and his playing number on the sleeve,” added the spokesperson.
Camp Hill is expecting large crowds to attend both the cup and memorial games, where a new scoreboard dedicated to Tom’s memory will also be unveiled.
