Birmingham Exiles 13
EXILES began their league campaign on a positive note with a hard-fought victory over Coventry side Copsewood.
The sides were evenly matched, scoring two tries apiece, and it was only points from the boot by way of a penalty goal to Exiles that ultimately made the difference.
It looked like the first half would be scoreless but just before the break, E’s standoff Dan Johnstone kicked a penalty goal to break the stalemate.
In marked contrast to the first half, the opening 10 minutes of the second half yielded three tries.
The remaining minutes were tense as the visitors tried all they could to rescue the match but Exiles held out for a victory they just about deserved. Aside from the scorers, Loveridge’s performance at open side flanker merits a mention.
E’s fixture for this Saturday is to be arranged. Their next league fixture is away to Coventry Technical on October 5, kick off 3pm.
