Ladies mark first 15 years

CAMP Hill Ladies WRFC are celebrating their 15th birthday this month, since one drunken bet led to the formation of Birmingham’s most successful ladies’ rugby team.

CAMP Hill Ladies WRFC are celebrating their 15th birthday this month, since one drunken bet led to the formation of Birmingham’s most successful ladies’ rugby team.

Back then only a hardy few made that first training session, but since, the Haslucks Green Road outfit has grown in numbers and quality.

Now a force to be reckoned with, Camp Hill Ladies are tantalisingly close to gaining promotion to the Premiership.

“We have gone from strength to strength over our 15 year history,” said current team captain Becci Lewis.

“From a group of ladies wanting to show the men they could do just as well as them, to now sitting second in Championship North 1 and eyeing up promotion to the top flight of women’s rugby.

“Every player, new and old, has had an impact on our success and we hope they can all join us to celebrate this achievement.”

Next Sunday (January 24) will see Camp Hill take on local rivals Loughborough WRFC at home (KO 2pm).

After the game, the club plan to mark their milestone with a birthday party, with past and present players all welcome.
