Earlsdon 18 Silhillians 24
A DRAMATIC late try by winger Nic Powell secured the win and bonus point for Sils on Saturday, in a thrilling game away at Earlsdon.
An Earlsdon penalty was swiftly followed by a try out wide as the Sils leaked penalties and turned over the ball to put them 10-0 down.
However a superb start to the second-half had the Sils right back in the mix, as two poacher’s tries by captain Jim Roper turned the match on its head. Steve Hawkin’s successful conversion with the second effort made it 12-10 to the visitors.
Scrambling defence prevented a try, although the awarding of a penalty in front of the posts and a yellow card to boot swung the momentum firmly back to Earlsdon who made it 13-12.
A defensive mix-up saw Earlsdon extend their lead to 18-12 with just 15 minutes left.
Then a rolling maul paved the way for hooker Lee ‘Window’ Jones to score.
Shortly afterwards, another turnover close to the Earlsdon line saw the ball shipped out wide to Powell.
With three covering defenders closing in, the pocket powerhouse shrugged them off for the decisive score to make it 24-18.
