THE trophy cabinet must be groaning at Old Silhillians after the club collected yet another cup when their U13 sevens team triumphed at the Manchester 7s.
It was the first time the team had featured in the prestigious event and they ran in a hatful of tries in their first three pool games.
Their final round robin was a hard fought encounter against Preston Grasshoppers however tries from Will Tanner and two from Alex Bartley saw them home.
The lads met Shrewsbury in the semi-final and after falling behind scores by Will Jordan, James Kinder, Alex Bartley and Alex Smith gave Sils a comfortable 26-12 victory.
The final was a re-match with Preston Grasshoppers and proved another tough game but a hat-trick of tries from Ollie Thorneywork and an exhausting run down the full length of the pitch run by Kai Lucas-Dumolo, desperately holding off the Hoppers number 14 meant that Sils took a well-deserved victory by 26-14. To cap off the day the winner’s trophy was presented by Leicester Tigers, England and Lions Scrum Half, Ben Youngs.
