OLD Yardleians completed a memorable season by winning their third trophy with a 10-5 win over Ross on Wye in the final of the North Midlands Vase at Dudley Kingswinford.
Old Yardleians had already won the Midlands Four West (South) and Midlands Junior Vase and completed the treble in a tough encounter played in miserable conditions.
Centre Laurence Edwards scored Old Yardeians’ only try in the first half and the kicking of fly-half Steve Goode, who added the conversion to go with an earlier penalty, proved decisive in a tight contest.
Ross, winners of the Vase in 2008 and 2009, fought back in the second half with flanker Gavin Oates crossing for an unconverted try.
Scrum-half Tom Grocott, who has impressed playing for Greater Birmingham in this season’s RLF Three Counties Championship, showed up well for Old Yardleians along with experienced back-row forward Steve Grainger.
