Berkswell 148-5 v Brockhampton 147 a.o.
Berkswell started their campaign back in the Birmingham Premier League Division 1 with a five wicket home victory against Herefordshire side Brockhampton.
Winning the toss, skipper Dominic Ostler invited the visitors to have first use of a track that was hard and dry and unaffected by the heavy rain that had fallen during the morning.
The decision paid dividends when Wes Hartslief picked up an early wicket trapping Ben Stebbings (5) lbw in the fourth over.
This was quickly followed when, with the score on 23, Warwickshire prospect Milnes had Adam Hewlett (7) caught at point by Chris Metters.
Berkswell had the upper hand and after a late flurry of runs the end of the innings came swiftly
In reply the Berkswell opening pair, brothers James and Phil Neale, started the innings in fine style and with Phil Neale taking 16 runs off Boroughs second over the duo rapidly advanced the score. Despite wickets falling seasoned campaigners Dominic Ostler (10 not out) and Mohammed Akhlaq (5 not out) saw Berkswell home to a five wicket win and an impressive start back in Division 1.
Victorious skipper Dominic Ostler said: “Next week we travel to Old Hill who are a side that are being tipped for promotion so we know we will have to keep focussed and not get carried away with our success over Brockhampton.”
