Silhillians U12s urged to enjoy Twickenham stage

Silhillians Under-12s coach Kevin Johns is urging his starlets to enjoy every second when they share the Twickenham stage with their idols later this month.

While we are still unsure as to which two Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs will battle it out at Twickenham for the Aviva Premiership Rugby trophy on May 30, Silhillians are assured of their place at the showpiece.

They secured their spot at rugby HQ at a Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup festival hosted by Northampton Saints on February 7.

Silhillians will be taking part in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup Parade of Champions during half-time of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final – with Johns insisting his troops can’t wait to grace the hallowed Twickenham turf.

“Everyone is really excited and there are going to be a lot of people there enjoying the day,” he said.

“The Under-12s worked so hard at the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup. We have a squad of 36 players in total so it was very hard to pick a team for the tournament. But even those that didn’t get picked kept their heads up.

“It’s the first time we had entered the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup so to win it the first time we entered was very special.

Launched in the 2008-09 season, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is the first national grassroots tournament officiated by Premiership Rugby and run in conjunction with all 12 clubs.

And while some of Silhillians Under-12s’ Twickenham experience will start and end on May 30, World Cup winner Lewis Moody is adamant the occasion will continue to have a positive effect on their lives.

“The Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is a wonderful competition,” Moody said. “The more young players who get involved in the game the better and having the carrot of the chance to appear at Twickenham at the end of the season is great.

“To go along and walk on the famous Twickenham pitch will be something the kids will remember for all their lives."

n Land Rover supports grassroots rugby and provides the opportunity for over 7,000 youngsters to take part in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup each season. Keep up to date with the latest Land Rover rugby activity by following @LandRoverRugby on Twitter.
