Sils pile on the pressure to extend unbeaten run

Wake Green 2 Silhill 1

Wake Green 2 Silhill 1

AFTER just four minutes of this thrilling local derby on a bobbly pitch at Drawbridge Road, an enormous, Rory Delap-type throw-in from Joe Constable on the Silhill left allowed Jamie May to hook over the Wake Green keeper Nore Gabbidon to give Silhill the lead.

May could have added a second in the 50th minute, but Gabbidon was equal to the shot.

Soon afterwards Sils’ keeper Andy Masters made a blinding save from evergreen Wakes’ forward Mark Cartwright, pushing his shot coolly around the post.

In the 66th minute Wake Green striker Matt Beard met a ball over the top of Sils’ defence to strike the equaliser. Worse followed for the visitors in the 81st minute when another hit-and-hope over the top of their defence fell kindly for Kyree Sawyers, who rammed in the winner.

On Saturday, Silhill take on Handsworth GSOB at Sharmans Cross Road, kick off 2.30pm.
