AM impressive performance by the Edwards pack laid the foundations for victory in this second round RFU Senior Vase cup tie at Streetsbrook Road.

A pushover try gave Eds a bright start and with the forwards providing a firm platform they were 24-0 up by half time, helped by two conversions from fly half Dave Gray.

A re-energised Daventry emerged for the second half although their early try was quickly cancelled by Edwardians’ fifth, Gray again being on target.

With the match all but won, the game deteriorated and the referee was forced to show two yellow cards, one for each side, bringing uncontested scrums which nullified the Eds advantage.

The two teams exchanged tries in the dying moments but Eds were already home and dry and into the last 16 of the Midlands division of the RFU Senior Vase.

This weekend Edwardians travel away to Yardley & District to continue their league campaign.

l Birmingham Exiles crashed out of the RFU Junior Vase, losing 61-5 away at Telford Hornets.

l Camp Hill Chargers returned to winning ways with a 76-0 thrashing away to Buckingham Swans. scoring 12 tries and eight conversions. including hat-tricks for Jo Kilby and Charlotte Hewer.
