Stoke 47 Camp Hill 3
AFTER the loss of eight players in the close season plus five of the current squad unavailable Camp Hill kicked off at Hartwell Lane against a well-strengthened home side who went unbeaten throughout last season.
They took the lead through Tom Hughes. Scrum half Chris Rowley kicked the conversion.
As the break was approaching an almost identical move saw Hughes register his second with Rowley’s kick doubling the score.
As in the first period there was little between the two sides up to the hour with fly half Ian Briggs and centre Charlie Maunder looking lively and penetrating in attack.
Sadly for Camps, a change in their front row saw Stoke take control. A try from full back Steve Talbot either side of one from left winger Paul Ramage together with two conversions from Rowley suddenly brought a 33 - 0 scoreline.
The Shirley side then attacked well to gain a penalty, scored by Briggs but a further try apiece deep in stoppage time for Talbot and Ramage, both improved by Hughes highlighted Stoke’s strength in recording a fine win on their return to this division.
