Bromsgrove 22 Bees 20
BEES will be on a revenge mission on Saturday as they take on Alex Davidson’s Old Luctonians at The Portway.
Davidson used to be a Bees stalwart and their pack’s ‘enforcer’ when times got tough.
Earlier in the season at Kingsland, his team put the Birmingham Solihull side to the sword in atrocious wet and windy conditions.
Bees will also be smarting from the way they let Bromsgrove off the hook last week, losing out to a last gasp try and conversion to have a match they’d sewn up stolen in front of their noses.
Director of rugby Eugene Martin was rueful as he reflected on a match that had got away.
“Fair dues to Bromsgrove, they came back at us, took their opportunities and kept the ball really well,” he said.
“Looking back, I think we gave the ball up too easily, we lacked a bit of composure and clarity and started defending as individuals rather than as a team.”
His team also missed the steadying influence of forwards coach Henno Venter (flu) and prop Matt Long (calf injury) while a yellow card for replacement Finlay Sinclair came at just the wrong time.
Bees play Old Luctonians tomorrow, Saturday, at Portway, kick off 2pm.
