B’ham Exiles 3 Trinity Guild 12
BOTH Birmingham Exiles and their Coventry opponents Trinity Guild came into this league encounter with near-identical records and proved to be generally well matched despite the visitors’ overall greater bulk.
As it was, all the scoring came from the boot, with the visitors profiting from the greater accuracy of their kicker.
With about 12 minutes gone, Guild’s full back James Mainwaring opening the scoring with a penalty goal. He added two more, the latter very well struck from the touchline.
Alex Warrillow then got Exiles on the board but were still failing to find the try line.
Guild hit back, at one point being held up over the line, but Es’ defended doggedly and Pinfield kicked clear.
Mainwaring then kicked his fourth goal to seal the game.
So, a slightly disappointing end to 2012 for Exiles. In a commendable effort from the pack, Halliwell put in a noteworthy performance.
