Underdogs wary of visitors

BEES director of rugby Russell Earnshaw says his side will be starting as underdogs when they take on Ealing Trailfinders as the rugby National League 1 season kicks off on Saturday.

BEES director of rugby Russell Earnshaw says his side will be starting as underdogs when they take on Ealing Trailfinders as the rugby National League 1 season kicks off on Saturday.

“Ealing won promotion last season, they’ve got a winning mentality, they’ve retained and added to their squad and they’ve got a reasonable budget so yes, we will be the underdogs,” said Earnshaw.

Despite that he’s confident Bees will be able to compete: “I know about two thirds of their squad and they play an expansive game - they’re not shy of a try or two,” said Earnshaw.

However he won’t be naming his squad until nearer Saturday to see how a few niggles and injuries pan out.

“It’s all about how we gel - but we’re positive we’ll give a performance and how fantastic it would be to go out there and start with a win,” he said.

Bees play Ealing Trailfinders at Damson Park on Saturday, August 27 - kick off 3pm.
