Aston Old Eds 2nds 16 Birmingham Exiles 18
EXILES got back to winning ways in this lively encounter.
The first half produced five tries and there seemed no reason why the second half would be much different, but no points at all came after the break.
A high tackle straight from kick off allowed right-winger Alex Warrillow to open the scoring with a penalty. Then, after defending well to stem a raid on the right flank, Exiles increased their lead when Ed’s defence failed to deal with a kick into the in-goal area, outside centre Dylan Baker getting the touchdown.
Home stand-off Harry Baldock cut the gap to five with a penalty, and soon after came a burst of four tries in 11 minutes, Eds crossing twice to take the lead 13-8 and Exiles replying through winger Calum McGee and stand-off Dan Johnstone. Finally, as both sides drew breath, Baldock kicked a second penalty goal.
Both sides continued to give the ball plenty of air and create likely-looking scoring opportunities. But whether it was final passes going astray, penalty infringements at the ruck or good defensive play, the points just did not come.
On Saturday Exiles are at home to Coventry side Trinity Guild in a league match, kick off at 2.15pm.
