Shrewsbury 18 Old Yardleians 11 LUCKLESS Old Yardleians fell to defeat at Midlands 4 West (North) title favourites Shrewsbury after a number of missed opportunities went begging.

Two tries were disallowed but Yards felt they deserved more from the game.

They did start the game well though and limited Shrews to a single penalty kick before Steve Grainger crashed over the line for Yards only try of the game.

Minutes later Yards thought they had increased their lead through Richard Withey but his attempt was held up on the line.

Ben Honey converted a penalty for Yards before the hosts added another penalty of their own before half time.

After the break the away side continued to dominate but two quick-fire tries, and one conversion put Shrewsbury back in control.

A late penalty gave Yards a lifeline but there was no way back after Lee Purdy grounded the ball on the line only for the referee to call the score short. n Tomorrow they face another tricky game as Willenhall visit Tilehouse Lane.
