ON Radio 4 on Wednesday morning there was a piece about people going hungry in the UK because they don’t have enough to live on.
One man, I think from Balsall Common, was walking miles to work and occasionally went without eating because he couldn’t afford to.
A young mum complained about the rising cost of bread and milk and said she sometimes went hungry so her children could eat.
These two examples may well be ones in a million, but as a snapshot of austerity Britain they tell a story of the cuts beginning to bite.
Solihull councillors meanwhile, continue to tuck in to their free ‘hot snack’ paid for at our expense while on council business.
Do I get free food at work? No. Do you? Probably not. Councillors already - and rightly - receive an allowance for the time they put in running the local authority, but isn’t it about time they shared the pain and paid for their own meals?
