Avenue Q, Belgrade Theatre, Coventry

They may look adorable but dont be fooled - the puppets on Avenue Q throw political correctness out the window as they swear, drink and misbehave through the most jaw-achingly funny modern musical around.

Far removed from the wealthy streets of Avenues A and B, idealistic graduate Princeton arrives in Avenue Q searching for his purpose, only to find a host of colourful characters that teach him life doesnt always play out like you plan.

Sam Lupton was excellent as the optimistic graduate while simultaneously voicing the closeted and sexually repressed investment banker Rod.

Princeton begins to fall for sweet kindergaten teacher Kate Monster until blond bombshell Lucy the Slut catches his eye, both played by a honey-voiced Katharine Moraz.

Understudy Jonny Fines stepped seamlessly into the roles of Rods annoying roommate Nicky and porn-obsessed Trekkie monster.

Like an x-rated Muppet Show, Avenue Q gives moral lessons about life and relationships but with plenty of graphic detail. Alongside catchy songs like Everyones a Little Bit Racist, It Sucks to be Me and The Internet is for Porn, it makes a touching yet irreverent show which keeps you laughing till the end.

Avenue Q is at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry until Saturday (June 2).
