Ben aims to magic some employment

AT some point all of us have wished we could “magic” some money – and such a skill would come in especially useful in the current economic climate.

AT some point all of us have wished we could “magic” some money – and such a skill would come in especially useful in the current economic climate. However one Solihull man may just have been able to perfect that skill...

After stints working in recruitment and property, 23-year-old Ben Hanlin has decided to throw his magician’s hat into the ring and become a full-time conjurer.

“Some people think I’m crazy,” he says on his decision to take up magic as a career. “I’m trying to give magic a young, fresh, look.”

More David Blaine than dodgy kids birthday magic, Ben may already be a familiar face as he performed in TGI Fridays in Touchwood for over two years.

Getting into magic “because I was bored at the back of the classroom in school” Ben has since turned the tables by using magic to fund his education.

His success at sleight of hand and mentalism helped fund his university education in Reading, coming back to Solihull at weekends to wow punters.

His skills have taken him as far afield as Australia and San Diego, where he entertained American football pros.

However he has returned to Solihull and is available for corporate events, weddings, and anything that can be spiced with a few tricks.

And just to give you a taste of what you can expect, what’s the next trick Ben is learning?

“Well I’m working on a routine where I swallow some needles. I’m really trying to push myself.”
