Chrys brings Burlesque to a new audience

TANTALISING but tasteful, camp yet colourful, it can only be ‘An Evening of Burlesque’ - the only theatre show of its kind to be thrilling audiences all over the country.

TANTALISING but tasteful, camp yet colourful, it can only be ‘An Evening of Burlesque’ - the only theatre show of its kind to be thrilling audiences all over the country.

Direct from London’s West End, Britain’s best Burlesque acts are coming to the region this week - and the Solihull News has grabbed a word with headline performer Chrys Columbine, pictured right.

Chrys, who grew up in Camden, London, has been a Burlesque dancer for just four years but has already performed all over the world - with some critics dubbing her ‘Britain’s answer to Dita Von Teese’.

“It’s great and really flattering,” Chrys told us, before going on to state why her music degree from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and classical pianist training makes her stand out as a unique act and not just a copycat of the famous American Burlesque dancer.

“That’s what makes me different to all other Burlesque acts in the world. There is something in the show for everyone, which is why I think the audiences love it.

“We encourage the audience to come dressed up and everyone always has a really good time.”

As one of the UK’s leading Burlesque acts, Chrys believes it is the amateur acts giving the art form a bad name. “It is one thing to do it in the bedroom but it’s very different to do it on stage,” she said, “I strip as I play classical pieces on the piano, so you could say I have to be more talented.”

Hollywood films like ‘Moulin Rouge’ have thrust burlesque into the limelight in recent years and show producer Michael Taylor decided to bring the entertainment to the UK.

The show is on tonight (April 8) at the Royal Spa Centre, Leamington Spa. Tickets are available on 01926 334418.
