Clarinet legend a stranger no more

A JAZZ legend – who became the first man to have a simultaneous No 1 on both sides of the Atlantic – will be performing in the borough.

A JAZZ legend – who became the first man to have a simultaneous No 1 on both sides of the Atlantic – will be performing in the borough.

Next month, Acker Bilk will be joining his jazz band for a concert at Solihull Arts Complex.

Fans can look forward to the clarinet player’s biggest hits, including Stranger on the Shore – the 1962 smash hit which propelled Acker to the top of the charts in both the UK and USA. Now aged 80, the performer shows no sign of slowing down. In 2001 he was awarded an MBE and, more recently, he was handed a BBC Jazz Award.

Next month’s gig is one of several celebrating the musician’s 60-plus years in the business.

Acker arrives in town on February 10. Tickets are available from the box office on 0121 704 6962.
