Solihull CC’s flying 15-year old, Danielle Khan did it again at the National Track Championships at Manchester’s Velodrome, clocking the fastest time in the 500m time trial to win by three tenths of a second – her second national title in a week.
Her 500m TT gold follows up her win in the sprint final just five days before.
The win is a tribute to her coaches at Solihull CC for the personal attention to detail that Dani has been given in training. Her ability for fast leg-speed comes from her skill as a speed skater, where she was the Under 13 European Champion. But she has now shown how capable she is to adapting her talent, and like Olympic cycling gold medallist Rebecca Romero has come to cycling via another sport.
Meanwhile Solihull CC riders were out in force at the West Midlands circuit championships in Lichfield.
Lucy Shaw showed the Under 14 girls a clean pair of heels to win her first regional title. Shaw, who started cycling with Solihull CC at the age of seven, dominated the race joining the pack of leading boys, whose race was run simultaneously.
Solihull CC’s Youth squad all turned in great performances with Danny Fox, Ethan Lee and Jack Ravenscroft all mixing it in the Under 16s race. Conor Fox, twins Harrison and Jacob Knight and Matt Shaw all put in strong performances in the Under 12s race, and Jack Rootkin-Gray along with James Upton fought their way to top ten places in a fiercely fast Under 10s event.
The Solihull riders now turn their attention to the upcoming West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League. The first round is on September 11 in Redditch, and if mud is your kind of fun, get along to Tudor Grange Circuit on Thursday evenings to be part of the training.
