Hooray for Ukulele

THREE weeks before their performance on October 12 and tickets for the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain have already completely sold out at the Civic Hall, Stratford on Avon.

THREE weeks before their performance on October 12 and tickets for the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain have already completely sold out at the Civic Hall, Stratford on Avon.

Booking for the world-renowned Orchestra opened at the end of last month and tickets have been flying off the shelves. One of the Box Office staff said: "In the 10 years that I've worked at the Civic Hall I can honestly say that this has been the quickest selling event ever."

The phenomenal success of the Ukulele Orchestra is down to their uniqueness.

The Orchestra's eight members are warm, entertaining, thought-provoking and funny. You may never think about music in the same way once you've been exposed to the Ukes' bizarre musicology.

From Charlie Parker to the Sex Pistols through Johann Sebastian Bach and Nirvana, the Orchestra takes the audience on a world tour with only hand luggage...

Contact the Civic Hall Box Office on 01789 207100 for returns.

Tickets are also selling fast for the other major events during the Festival. On Saturday October 11 the opening concert of the Festival, in Holy Trinity Church, presents Armonico Consort with Welsh Soprano Elin Manahan Thomas and Trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins in an evening entitled 'The Brilliance of Baroque' which includes music by Scarlatti, Purcell and Vivaldi plus Handel's Suite from the Water Music.

The Festival's new Artistic Director, Ambrose Miller, who was appointed at the end of last year said, "We are building on the recent achievements of the Festival, and this year have a programme that puts us on a level with the best of Britain's top Arts Festivals.

Tickets for the Festival, which takes place from October 10-19, can be purchased from the Civic Hall Box Office on 01789 207100, or booked online at www.civichall.co.uk.

Tickets will also be available on the door, but check in advance for availability.
