THERE has been no expense spared in the creation of Hockley Heath’s newest establishment - i-crave.
It appears to be an everyday coffee shop-cum-deli but when you get inside there are all manner of delights on offer to tempt you.
We popped in for leisurely lunch and were truly spoilt for choice.
Hot meals from the menu such as lasagne, chilli con carne and cottage pies and pizzas are all made on the premises and there are a good selection of sandwiches and pies and pastries and jackets which are served all day to eat in or take away.
On our visit I plumped for a salt beef sandwich (£4.25 or £3.05 to go) which Stephen cures himself and which was served on chunky fresh bread and melt-in-the-mouth delicious.
After much deliberation my daughter chose a very summery sounding i-crave picnic (£6.75) which consisted of a black pudding scotch egg, gammon ham, home-made relish, juicy olives and hand-made crisps with a good portion of chunky bready and butter. Too good to share but you can double up for an extra £3!. As the premises are licensed we enjoyed a couple of glasses of the house white and rose wines, but they offer a good selection as well as their own i-crave bubbly and of course the coffee - from Daterra Brazil’s first sustainable coffee farm, and fast building a reputation locally.
On the deli side there’s an extensive Italian range from balsamic vinegar and balsamic cream, to pastas and speciality scotch eggs.
The i-crave chutneys, pickles and jams are made locally and artisan bread is available fresh daily or can be bought frozen.
Most of the items on the menu are available to takeaway and there’s a full breakfast option too, so whatever time of day pop in.
They are open Monday to Saturday 8.30am - 5.30pm and serve breakfast from 8.30am - 12pm.
You can find them on the Stratford Road, just after the Wharf Tavern.
