Looking for football stars of the future

A HIGHLY professional and disciplined football academy has been set up in Solihull to help youngsters of all ages fulfil their football dreams.

A HIGHLY professional and disciplined football academy has been set up in Solihull to help youngsters of all ages fulfil their football dreams.

Former Birmingham City star Ian Atkins will work alongside the experienced Rob Cleverley to create an academy brimming with local talent.

Ian, who spent three years as manager of Oxford United has got his full pro-licence which enables him to teach anywhere in the world.

The 51-year-old has worked at the highest level in football and has helped make young professionals such as Scott Sinclair (Chelsea), Dean Whitehead (Sunderland) and Dextor Blackstock (QPR) become the players they are today.

Meanwhile Rob, 52, who spent five years at St Andrews before moving down the road to work with youngsters at Coventry City for a further seven seasons admitted that he cannot wait to get started.

"The academy offers the full package. We will work on things like diet, nutrition, recovery, and psychology as well as improving football skills," he said.

"There will also be a consultancy programme in place for individuals who may have been released from a professional club.

"We want to make good play-ers into great players and give the less able players the chance to still make a living out of football."

Both coaches are keen to build up a high-reputation academy in Solihull and there is no better venue than the modernised West Warwicks Sports Centre.

The Grange Road site boasts a large all-weather playing surface with adequate space available for personal training and one-on-one sessions.

Ian is also hoping to give under 18's in the borough the chance to show what they can do."Young footballers suffer a lot of rejection and too much pressure is often put on them, but we are here to help them progress and make sure they enjoy themselves at the same time. There is a lot of young talent out there."

The course gets underway on Friday October 24 and will run every Friday from 5.30-7.00pm.

To book a place on the course which costs £28 for four sessions or for any more information call Robert on 07968537266.
