FROM school plays to stage shows, the streets of Knowle to the cities of Europe...
Lucy Martin has landed a plum role in the award-winning West End musical, Mamma Mia!
The Solihull News spoke to the borough actress, pictured, about performing in one of the most popular shows going.
“The audience always have such a good time, they’re dancing in the aisles,” says the 19-year-old.
“At every performance there’s a great vibe and it’s really good fun to be part of.”
It’s actually Lucy’s second stint in a musical as she previously performed in Dirty Dancing.
And no sooner had she left that show, she won a part in Mamma Mia! and is about to start an international tour.
The show will be visiting Geneva, Zurich, Dublin and Prague, maybe even as far as Dubai.
“I’m a swing, the person who steps into a role if someone else is ill or unable to do that night,” explains Lucy.
“What that means is that I have to learn every part of the show, but it’s good because there’s no chance of getting bored.
“Shows start at seven o’clock and I suppose I find out who I’m playing that night at five, maybe half four.”
The teenager got a start while still at Arden School, joining groups like Stagecoach and the West Midlands Youth Ballet.
She says she enjoys musicals, but was also keen to try her hand at a straight acting role.
“A play maybe? Or a film. I know these are obviously tough to break into, there’s a lot of competition.
“I suppose I’m ambitious, but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t be doing this job if I wasn’t!”
