AN ACOCKS Green youngster has landed a plum role in a new production of Oliver!
Ten-year-old Mitchell Elliott will be playing the Artful Dodger in a new show - coming to the Crescent Theatre this autumn. The loveable rogue was memorably played by Jack Lord in the sixties film.
The Hatchford Brook pupil will be joining a massive cast (20 adults and 30 children from around the region). But there’s no danger of stage fright, the youngster has already faced a crowd of 1,000 people at a holiday camp talent show.
Henry Liggins, aged nine, will be taking the title role and drama teacher Ann-Louise McGregor is playing Nancy.
Premiering in London in 1960, the Lionel Bart classic is inspired by Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. It’s enjoyed many successful runs over the years and was revived on The West End earlier a few months ago.
The show is being brought to life by The Arcadians - a Birmingham acting company. Anyone interested in joining the group should call Stella Rourke on 07950 242114.
* Oliver! will enjoy a four-night run from October 20-24. Tickets are available from the Crescent box office on 0121 643 5858 or online at www.crescent-theatre.co.uk .
