NEWLY refurbished with a stylish, modern slant yet still nodding to its period features, The Bull at Furnace End was certainly worth the jaunt from Solihull.
My husband and I took advantage of a sunny Friday evening to visit the eatery in Warwickshire which is now under the ownership of Iain George and Katrina Miller, proprietors of the successful The Beeches Bar & Grill in Hampton- in- Arden.
Arriving at around 8pm the restaurant was already full and throughout the night several would-be customers had to be turned away - a good sign!
There are lots of nooks and crannies for intimate soirees and a central courtyard beer garden which is ideal for a gathering of friends.
Diners can choose from two courses for £10 and three courses for £13 on the prix fixe menu but we decided on the main menu sharing olives and rustic bread (£3.50) and a plate of Parma Ham, Melon & Chilli Salsa (£6.50) which was delicious and certainly wetted the appetite.
Fresh, local ingredients are sourced here and traditional pub favourites as well as modern dishes are on the menu.
I plumped for the Local Roast Chicken, Paprika, Chunky Chips & Aioli (£10.50) which was moist and flavoursome with suitably fat chips and a tasty garlic mayonnaise.
I added Tomato, Basil & Red Onion (£2.50 ) while Martin opted for the meaty 10oz Peppered Rib Eye, with Watercress and Hand Cut Chips (£16.50) and a side order of Cabbage, Leeks & Peas (£2.50).
With a little bit of room left for dessert, Martin went for the mouth-watering Chocolate Fondant, Pecan & Maple Ice Cream (£5.00) while I decided on the decadent Mango & Passionfruit Eton Mess (£5.00).
A Prix Fixe menu is available from 12noon to 2.30pm Monday to Saturday and 6pm to 7pm Monday to Friday.
The Bull, Furnace End is located on Coleshill Road, Furnace End, Warwickshire B46 2LG. 01675 481602.
