SHE’S sung with the Naked Chef and taken her Abba act around the world, now Solihull’s own Nina Clarke is performing on a Christmas single with a difference.
Her friend, the composer Leigh Haggerwood, came up with a seasonal song - an antidote to the annual X-Factor release.
Thirty-six musicians - collectively called The Florin Street Band - were asked to take part in the project.
A video was filmed on location at Ironbridge, where the team turned back the clock more than a century - conjuring up a Victorian snow scene.
“Leigh called me up and said that he was fed-up with the charts being dominated by the X-Factor at Christmas,” said Nina.
“He asked me if I wanted to be part of this independent record, called My Favourite Time of Year, and I jumped at the chance - I sing and appear in the video.”
Mum-of-two Nina donned a bonnet and corset dress for the video, which was actually filmed at the tourist attraction in August.
“It was incredible, we took over Ironbridge for the night - everyone was in costume and snow-machines were going. We even had Victorian-style lampposts brought in, the whole thing looked incredible.”
Top choreographer John Perez - who has worked with artists like Beyonce and Eminem - lent his services.
For 32-year-old Nina it was a very different project from ones she’s worked on in the past.
In recent years, she’s dueted with Jamie Oliver when he’s visited the NEC and been one quarter of the tribute band Abba Revival.
“When I was at school I was very shy, I only really got into music when I was at university,” said the former St Peter’s pupil. “I’m actually a trained accountant, but I find the music is easier to fit round being a mum.”
