ACTOR Philip Olivier wasn’t too convinced when he was asked to audition for a role in the new Take That musical.
After all, he’d never performed in this sort of show before and wasn’t sure what to expect.
Nevertheless, he went along, made a big impression and next thing he knew he was setting off on a national tour.
“I’m so glad I decided to go along and give it a go,” said the former Brookside star. “It’s been such a great experience and completely different from what I’ve done in the past.”
Never Forget is the latest jukebox musical to arrive on the stage. This time it’s Take That whose greatest hits are being weaved around a theatre show.
“I did like some of Take That’s songs the first time round - but it wasn’t very cool to admit that. You had to keep it to yourself. Now they’ve reformed and they’ve been recognised as very cool.”
“The story is about a group of five friends who form a tribute band. Every member of the group has a very different personality and the show follows them in a talent competition,” said Philip.
For a man who is still fairly new to live shows, touring the UK has been an inspirational - albeit tiring - experience.
“It is a very tough routine, but it’s nice to see different parts of the country and I’ve learned an awful lot.”
As for what the Liverpudlian has lined up once he’s finished the run, the answer is simple. A holiday!
Never Forget will be on at the Wolverhampton Grand from November 24-28. Tickets are available from the box office on 01902 42 92 12.
