Sizzling way to celebrate summer food

We sampled the fayre on offer at The Plough on Stratford Road on a windy Thursday evening. These ‘sizzling’ type menus are becoming increasingly popular and offer very good value for money and The Plough has a good selection of steaks and burgers as well as specials.

I started with an old favourite of garlic and herb breaded mushrooms (£3.75) which were juicy and plentiful while my partner plumped for the Baked Camembert (£4.99) which was served with rustic bread and spiced onion marmalade.

For mains I opted for the Chicken Breast and Maple Pork Ribs (£11.50) which was a succulent smoky-flavoured half rack of ribs and a tender chicken breast with onion rings, chips and a tasty bourbon and blackberry barbeque sauce. All absolutely delicious but a little too large, especially after a starter.

My partner’s main course of Sirloin and Giant Prawns ( £16.99) was disappointing due to the lack of giant prawns, but the steak and substitute smaller prawns were well received.

As usual my partner was the only one with any room left for a sweet and his choice of the Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake (£4.65) did not disappoint.

We haven’t got round to lighting the charcoal at home yet and the wind may have been howling outside but we certainly caught the barbeque mood at The Plough.
