Skate to a better heart

SOLIHULL Ice Rink is calling on primary schools in the borough to take part in their exciting sponsored skate week in December.

SOLIHULL Ice Rink is calling on primary schools in the borough to take part in their exciting sponsored skate week in December.

The Hobs Moat Road club are using the week to help raise much-needed funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

And they are offering free entry for school bookings to encourage them to raise sponsorship for the BHF.

Lady Katherine Leveson Primary School is the latest school to help support the 'skate to a better heart' week through an exciting new after-school club.

Trainee teacher Miss Lydi Bousfield spent her youth days as a skater and is now bringing pupils from the school to the Ice Rink.

Miss Bousfield, who works in Foundation Key Stage, said: "It's not every school that can provide an Ice-Skating club, so I was thrilled that we could give our children this chance, at the same time as promoting such a good cause."

Organiser of the week, Emma Eyre feels that skating is a great way to stay fit because you can have so much fun at the same time.

"It is important that we work with schools to enable children to understand the importance of regular exercise in reducing diseases associated with lack of physical activity"

Schools can book a free 30-minute skating session between 10am- 12noon by contacting Emma on 0121 722 8304.

Beginners, novices and experienced skates can all join in the fun and helpers will be around to give a guiding hand.
