EVERYONE knows at least one number from the Sound of Music, and last week it seemed that most of them were sitting behind me!
You just can’t help humming, toe-tapping and fairly belting out the production’s iconic tunes such as Do-Re-Mi, My Favourite Things, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and the title song The Sound of Music.
With Connie Fisher, winner of the television talent show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? in the lead role and former Robin Hood Michael Praed as Captain Von Trapp, this West End show has real star appeal.
It’s already been seen by millions of people and it’s easy to see why.
The production and staging are impressive throughout while the seven Von Trapp children are wonderfully able in their roles.
While Connie Fisher as Maria is undoubtedly the main draw, special mention should go to Michael Praed who plays the part of the strict Captain who gradually softens under Maria’s influence and also Marilyn Hill Smith,(The Mother Abbess) must be credited for her fantastic voice.
Great scenery and a rousing orchestra means this summer show is sure to become one of Birmingham’s favourite things. The Sound Of Music is on until August 21.
